How much will this cost?
Asking for a quote.
What to have and know before asking for a quote:
What type of items are you needing?
There are two types of items for you to choose from. Single Square, or Multi-Square, which will determine your price based on the complexity of the item. I will cover the two different types further down the page.
How many items are you needing?
The number of items impacts the cost. You will need to know exactly what items you need, including walls, floors, and of course, actual objects like furniture and plants and whatnot. This process can take a long time, so what I would suggest is to either go into the dream the patches will be for, or into a similar dream to the one you want to have, and make an entire, comprehensive list of every item you will want.
I need this list before I can give you a quote of any kind.
How detailed is each item?
Drawing a rectangular box is not the same as drawing the Tardis. Some items will just be naturally far more detailed than others, and these objects take much more time. The price of items is tailored specifically to every item in question that you want. Because of this, it is crucial to have relevant references of items you like, or references that inspire you for those items. This will give me an idea of what you're wanting for those items, and I can price them properly.
Are any of your objects Animated? If so, which ones?
Understand that animated objects take more artwork, and more artwork takes more time. It is up to you to decide how many frames you would like me to use for an animated object, though I can give you my recommendation depending what the item is. Items with more frames will always have smoother animations, however, they will also always cost more. I am not a natural animator, so it is hard for me. I do not do large, elaborate animations. If you're not sure if your animation is elaborate or not, ask me.

Item Types
Single Square Items:
These items are confined more or less to one square at their base, and are meant for only one person to walk on them, or around them. These objects don't require any additional work to look correct. These cost $15 each. This includes both regular furcadia screen size and full screen size, so you wont have to pay extra for it to look good in full screen.
For Example:
This standing NPC Guard below. This object doesn't interact nor interfere with any passing furres or complicate the illusion in any way. This would cost $15 as a base price. This particular item is not very complex, so it wouldn't carry any additional fees.

Multi-Square Items:
Beds, sofas, large trees, or any item that will cover more than one block to display correctly.
Though this is usually meant for items that people will walk and sit on, sometimes, if an object is large enough, it is required to use multiple squares for the item to interface correctly in the dream. Otherwise, you end up with items that clip into people, or that people get lost behind because it isn't displaying behind them or on top of them the way it's suppose to. To remedy this, we use Overlays.
Any square that is used beyond the first, initial square for the Base of the item is called an Overlay. Overlays cost $7 each.
For example, with many bed designs, there are four posts and a canopy, but in order for the canopy to display correctly, the foremost posts need to be placed in front of the actual base four bed pieces, along with the canopy piece, or else it will look like they're sitting on top of it. This property applies to anything that is made to look like the player is “inside” of the item. So, beds, vehicles, trees with hanging branches or vines, sofas with armrests, or anything of that sort will be called a Multi-Square item. Overlays will be used for the 'front' parts of the item to make complete the illusion.
For example:
A two-person throne, as shown below, would have a base price of ($15 + $15) $30, because it has the main Base Square and 3 overlays added on to it to make it look right. This particular item is VERY complex, which would apply an additional complexity fee of about 40-50%. So, with a complexity of 45% of the base price, ($13.50), this patch item would cost $43.50.

Overlays are Important, and here's why:
Observe the comparison at right. Notice how the item clips improperly into the walls until the overlays are added. This is because Furcadia is on an isometric angled plane.
Overlays are used to place items over the interrupting aspects, so that walls and furres and even floor items can interact properly with the item. Below, I have removed the item to show the squares beneath. The purple square is where the Base Square is. The three blue squares beside it show where overlays are placed. |
Interaction
Now let's look at how using overlays affects furre interaction. Notice how, without any overlays, the furre does not seem to sit properly on the item. Rather, the armrest doesn't overlap the way it's suppose to, giving the appearance that my back foot is sitting on top of it, instead of within the seat as it's suppose to.. Moreover, as displayed at right, without any overlays, the furre can't even interact with the second seat of the throne.
|
So, we start adding overlays. The first overlay is the second seat, and also includes the armrest for the first seat, so that it displays correctly when someone sits in it, as we can see in the two pictures at right. See how my foot is now properly hidden by the armrest? That's the overlay.
But then, as shown in the bottom picture at right, the second seat runs into the same problem as the first, with the second armrest on the second seat. Again, my back foot is showing where the armrest should be. So, we have to add another overlay to correct that. |
As a disclaimer, the floor squares are only there as a display for this purpose. They won't be in any finished objects I do for you. Overlay position can be just about anywhere, so long as it works, so placement wont always be in a straight line as it is here. I hope this helps to explain why overlays are necessary for large items, and any items that a furre interacts with. Obviously, most items will not be this intricate.
Prices
Pricing Breakdown:
Prices are based on 5 things: Quantity, Base Squares, Overlays, Animations, and Complexity.
Quantity:
Buy items in bulk and save money! This refers ONLY to the base squares of items, not including overlays. This does not include purchases of patch items you have made in the past, only if the order for those patches have been placed all at once.
Buy 1 to 9 items and spend $12 per Base Square.
Buy 10 to 20 items and spend $10 per Base Square instead of $12.
Buy 21 or more items and spend $8 per Base Square instead of $10.
Base Squares: $15 Each
Base Squares are the original “seat” of the item. It's the main building block of the object. This is the original art that is done for the patch. As a note, you are paying for the finished patch item, not the fullsize art of said item. That stays with me, so that I can prove I did the patch. I will however, allow you to show any displays I have made, to show in my own galleries.
Overlays: $5 each
Every Items that are interactive or allow furres to look like they are "inside of something" (IE, Vehicles, beds, chairs with armrests or trees with overhangs) will require overlays. These are to make the item interactive. Additionally, overlays may be used to fully display objects that are otherwise massive in the furcadia world, like giant trees or buildings, things that simply don't fit in the patch item window. Items use overlays to appear correctly on the isometric plane, above. Not all objects, in fact most objects, probably wont use overlays.
Small Animations: $3 per frame.
Animations take lots of time and effort to do properly, but having an ample number of frames for your animated object will make your item flow much better. I do not do large, elaborate animations.
Complexity: 10-50% Base Square price per item depending on the amount of detail required.
Designing a simple item like a pillow seat is not nearly as time consuming as designing, for example, a king's magical cursed throne. The amount of detail your item has will impact the price. This is done on a case by case basis, once I've heard what you have in mind and/or have seen references you have in mind. I will value your project at what I think it's worth for me to do what you're asking for.
Additional Patch Services:
Patch Modify or Fix: Have a patch that is broken or needs repaired in some way, edited or tweaked? I can usually do these kinds of things for a negotiated fee depending on the size of the fix and how long it'll take me.
Patch Recolor: Got a few patch items that are just hideous or don't match the rest of the theme of your dream? Allow me to recolor them for you. You must have permission of the original artist of those items for me to do this.
Free Stock or Resource Patches: Want some really nice looking patches, but can't afford something hand drawn? Ask me about using some patches that are made with free stock images or public domain resources. These will usually save you a few bucks on what you're wanting, but this is also negotiated depending on the size of the patch item and how much of the free stock is being used in it, and how much time it saves me in drawing. Hint: Free resource patches work best on things like wall hangings, rugs, or wall textures. They could also be used in patterns on furniture.
